Never seen this before, I've just chucked a seagate 320 into a hdd caddy, the p.c found it & said it's ready to use, but it doesn't show up in my computer. If I go into disk management, it's there as a healthy partition, but in brackets it says GPT protective partition. All of the options, like format, delete partition etc. are shaded out. It doesn't even have a drive letter, it's just called 'disc 6'. What to do?I clicked ignore & now I've got scanning for supported drives boxes all over the place. Looks like I'll have to format it the old fashioned way.
I have tried putting those drives back in a Win7 PC but it doesn't pick it up either? I have used a programme called "get back data" or "get data back" and i have found the files but it says "File Plug in missing the file might be corrupt
My advice - use Windows 7 or Ubuntu to back up the data. Then follow the instructions in this article to make the drives XP compatible again - Troubleshooting GPT Protective Partition Issues
