Samsung Chromebook Wi-Fi 11.6-Inch

1 comments | Read more...
I'm an editor for a web-based publication so my usage is primarily writing and some light (very light) image editing. I've done most of my writing on Google Docs for a long time because it automatically saves and I hate writing directly into the CMS. We also use Google Apps Business for e-mail, calendaring and doc sharing so that rocks.

The Samsung Chromebook is very sleek, thin, and light. It is somewhat similar in form to a Macbook Air, but it's also close to a number of the new Ultrabooks. The feel in hand is very solid and doesn't seem like a $249 computer. The keyboard is very good; very solid feel and great action. If you type quickly (100+ wpm), you'll be happy to know this keyboard can keep up with you. The only better keyboard I've used in recent memory is the Air, but it's not far off.

Product Description

Chromebooks run Web-based apps, not traditional PC applications.
Chromebooks are designed to be connected to the Internet. You can create documents and spreadsheets or edit photos on a Chromebook using Google apps designed for these purposes. The Chrome operating system will not load and run traditional PC software like Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop. However, files created in these applications can be viewed and edited using Google apps on your Chromebook or cloud-based applications like Microsoft's Office web apps.

You store your files in the Cloud, not on the machine.
To help make them thin and light, Chromebooks are built without large-capacity drives. So instead of storing your documents, videos, and photos on your computer, you save them to Google Drive (Google's Cloud-based storage service). Your files are password-protected and secure, and you can access them anywhere there's an Internet connection. If you know you'll want access to a file or photo offline, however, you can easily save it to the built-in solid-state drive.

BenQ EW EW2440L 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor

0 comments | Read more...
The obvious triggers here were the computer monitors I was staring at and surrounding lighting conditions. But to do my job there was no way of getting around that. PWM, the technology nearly all LED monitors use to reduce the brightness from 100%, makes the backlight of a monitor turn on and off rapidly, creating a flicker effect that is mostly imperceptible but can cause eyestrain and headache in those who are sensitive to it. Some people suggest turning the brightness to 100% to avoid PWM, but that creates a high-contrast situation that is a migraine trigger in itself.

This monitor does not use PWM at all. There is additional circuitry added to allow it to adjust the brightness through direct current (DC) instead. This makes a world of difference in the overall comfort of viewing the monitor. Even my non-migraine-suffering coworkers have commented that these monitors are noticeably easier on the eyes. Using these monitors I am able to work pain-free and without sunglasses

If you are looking for a transition from point and shoot cameras to the DSLR world, this is the camera to buy. It is very easy to use and learn. Designed very well and has got all the features of a DSLR.

PROS: I have to say it's a really nice camera if you know how to use it or starting to learn photography. Easy to function, very nice video mode, and most importantly nice quality photos.

CONS: I've used the 18-135mm lens often and I have to say it's pretty sweet, though I personally would buy just the body and a separate lens of your choice for whatever purpose. Also the lens barrel moves nice and smooth, maybe a bit too smooth. The lens can't hold it's self if it's held down (also does a bit when tilted)unless you're holding it, for example if you were to place the camera on a tripod to photograph something at 50mm from a direct top view, it will go from 50mm to 135mm. I find it really annoying especially with long exposures.

So basically it's a really nice camera for those who are new to photography and for those who are deeper into photography should just buy the body and lens separate, in my opinion.

Dropcam Pro Wi-Fi Wireless Video Monitoring Camera

Nothing to complain about this item. It just works. Nice video quality affects image latency up to 5-10 seconds, but it does not matter for me. There is no variety of mounts, but those inside are enough.222

Product Description

In less than a minute, you'll have it set up and securely streaming high-definition video to you over your home Wi-Fi. Use it to watch your home, your baby, the dog or your small business. Every camera comes with Night Vision, HD video, Two-Way Talk and Digital Zoom. Paired with secure online Cloud Video Recording (CVR), you can watch live and recorded video from anywhere on any device. Dropcam makes monitoring what you love and finding peace of mind easier than ever. Watch from any device such as your Apple Mac, Windows PC, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Android device. All you need is a Wi-Fi network paired with the free and easy-to-use Dropcam App. Watch what you love while away with Dropcam.

Design And Setup 222 One look at the packaging for the new Dropcam Pro$199.99 at Amazon and it's obvious the company is channeling Apple's product presentation. Even the box is a beaut, containing the absolute minimal paperwork to get up and running: a postcard sized quick start guide.

The appearance of the Dropcam Pro is identical to the Dropcam (still available at $149.99). The camera itself is a small puck that clips into a metal stand on a hinge. The stand rotates as needed in the base you attach to wall or ceiling, so you can view any area of a room. In the stand, Dropcam Pro measures 4.5 by 3.15 by 3.15 inches (HWD). Without the stand, the puck-shaped camera itself is hard to position, but not impossible, if you want to add some stealth to your deployment. It's nice that the Pro's stand is now black to match the camera, but it's a shame the 10-foot long USB-power cord and wall adapter are still white, so they don't exactly match.

Dropcam Pro is one of the few cameras that lack an Ethernet port. It's all about the wireless: Inside the camera is not just Wi-Fi, but dual-band 802.11n, so you can connect via 2.4GHz (the typical setup) or 5GHz. Dropcam Pro is the only surveillance camera on the market with dual-band. The camera actually picks the band for you, generally going 5GHz if available.

Your installation options include plugging the camera directly into a PC to access the setup files for Mac or Windows and going from there, but that's old-school. Much easier: Plug the Dropcam Pro into power, open up the free Dropcam app on an iOS device (or eventually Android 4.3 device), create or log in to a Dropcam account, and let it find the camera. Give the camera your Wi-Fi network login credentials, give it a unique name, and you're done.

Samsung 32-Inch LED HDTV

0 comments | Read more...
This is a really sweet Samsung HDTV for the price. The first one I bought at Walmart for $298 was on Sept. 4th. That one had some LED backlight bleed on the bottom center of it. Like a white cloud around 4 or 5 inches long. So I took it back and returned it and went to another Walmart to purchase another one. No noticeable backlight bleed on this one.I remember reading that there is no noticeable difference between a 1080P vs. 720P with HDTV's under 40". I found this to be true with a 32" HDTV. It honestly looks like a 1080P HDTV. So save your money unless you want a SMART 32" HDTV.I always grew up being a Sony fan. But Samsung has the best picture quality on the market today. You can see that when you checkout the displays at the stores. Was first considering a Vizio, but they are hit and miss with the user reviews. To me it was worth paying an extra $60 for a Samsung that gets much more consistent good user reviews. The blacks are a deep black and the colors are truly brilliant. The sound is very good on it. No need to hook-up external speakers to it. Love the thin bezel on it as well. I use this 32" for my medium size bedroom. Bigger is better, but anything bigger than this would be overwhelming.I would recommend doing what I did and go with SquareTrade on the warranty. They advertize a 3 year parts and labor warranty for $33. Make sure you call them instead of doing it online. When I called the Rep he offered me a 4 year warranty for $3 more. You can't beat a $364 year warranty. And SquareTrade has great user reviews.

Amazon Fire TV

I'm your typical middle-aged woman - I don't game, and I'm not super tech-savvy by any means....so take this review for what it is. The Fire TV was easy to install and I'm loving all the features, free movies, music and simple interface - this thing even has a screen saver that comes on when you're listening to music! We've always just had our Comcast cable service without DVR and occasionally used Comcast OnDemand to watch/rent movies - but I'll never watch from Comcast again. The voice recognition software is amazing and brought me to exactly what I was looking for every single time I searched. It's just so easy to find what you're looking for (unlike Comcast), and since I'm an Amazon Prime member most of what I want to view is free - oh and for the new release movies the cost to "rent" from Amazon is on average cheaper than Comcast OnDemand by a ~$1 or more. So happy with my Amazon Fire TV.

 What is Amazon Fire TV?

Amazon Fire TV is a tiny box that connects your HDTV to a world of online entertainment. With a huge selection of TV episodes and movies, voice search that actually works, plus exclusive features like ASAP and Amazon FreeTime, it’s the easiest way to enjoy Netflix, Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus, low-cost movie rentals, live and on demand sports, music, photos, games, and more.

Whats on Amazon Fire TV?

Amazon Fire TV combines all your favorite subscriptions and streaming services with Amazon's massive selection of digital content. Watch over 200,000 TV episodes and movies, rent videos from just 99 cents, or kick back with your favorite sports, news, music, and games.

Why Should I Buy Amazon Fire TV?

Amazon Fire - A Good Move for Amazon -Tablets are surely changing mobile marketing and the way consumers use the Web. The iPad 2 is the obvious current gold standard, though many other tablets are being released that rival the iPad in various aspects. Amazon is entering the game with its upcoming Fire tablet, a 7-inch tablet that will be available for $199 this holiday season. Some people have criticized the move. According to Business Insider, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimates Amazon will lose $50 or more per tablet, once marketing and production costs are factored in. However, this short term loss could be a huge long term gain for Amazon. Let's look at some numbers. According to Forrester Research, conversion on tablets is 4-5%, compared to 3% for PCs. Tablets also produce 10-20% larger carts than PCs. So, consumers are buying more, and more often, using tablets than PCs. Therefore, if Amazon gets its own tablets in the hands of consumers, it's a good bet that those consumers will make future purchases at Amazon as opposed to other sites. Also, the Amazon Fire helps Amazon in its battle with Apple over who rules the digital content space. Consumers who use tablets to buy music or videos are steered by the device. iPads send people to iTunes or other Apple services.

The Fire is Amazon's counter attack. It will guide users towards making purchases on Amazon, and not Apple or other digital content providers. Lastly, the Fire is a good move for Amazon's reputation. Consumers like companies that constantly push for innovation. Blackberry was popular, but the phones didn't change much after a few years, so consumers moved to other smart phones. Palm, Yahoo, and AOL are other examples of companies that have lost out by playing it safe. Apple and Google, on the other hand, constantly keep consumers on their toes through fast-paced innovation. A powerful and inexpensive tablet might be just what the doctor ordered for Amazon and its reputation as an innovative company. In general, tablets still might be a year or two away from going totally mainstream. But, they are not just for techy guys anymore. Moms take tablets to the grocery store for errands, college students use them to organize notes and classes, and even kids use tablets for games and books. Once the price starts to come down, as it has with the Amazon Fire, tablets will be found in as many homes as computers and cell phones.

GoPro Hero3

0 comments | Read more...

I'm impressed with this little camera's definition. It's picture quality is absolutely tact sharp. I was kinda doubtful when I first bought it but after seeing the output I became addicted to it. It was very entertaining to capture different angles, especially point of view shots. It's easy to rig and easy to control using it's accessories.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F3F0GLU/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00F3F0GLU&linkCode=as2&tag=netrix-20

The Go Pro Hero 3 could very well be the best digital camera for those needing to record sports and action hands-free. Unlike other digital cameras designed to be hand held cameras, the Hero 3 by Go Pro is a mountable design with a plethora of mounting options and brackets for your either your body (like helmet mounts or around the waist, or for your car or motorcycle too.) The new version 2 offers many improvements over the first generation of Hero portable camera and eclipses the older version in terms of battery life, image quality and recording choices. Let's have a look: More Megapixels The new version of this Go Pro Camera offers 11 megapixels of resolution. This might be considered low if you compare the resolution against other more conventional digital cameras but the Go Pro still can create poster sized prints. 11 megapixels is more than enough resolution. True HD Video Recording The first and foremost reason to consider the Go Pro Hero is for the video recording, and not only can you record video underwater to depths of close to 200 ft you can also do so at a selection of high resolution video formats including 720p, 960p and 1020 HD formats. One Touch Operation If you're on the move, you don't have time to fiddle with camera settings and buttons. All camera controls can be accessed by just one button on the Go pro camera so making settings choices is just a click away. Longer Battery Life The Go Pro Hero 3 offers 2.5 hours of HD video recording on one charge of the camera's lithium battery. More Video Storage Get up to 8.5 hours of HD video recording on the Go Pro with the purchase of an optional 32GB SD memory upgrade card. Unlimited Camera Mounting Options It doesn't matter if you're a hiker, skier, cyclist or motorsports enthusiast there's a mounting solution available for any condition you could possibly think of from helmet mounts for your digital camera to motorcycle mounts or mounting options for the side of your car, you're guaranteed to find a way to record on the move with the Go Pro Hero 3 Camera. Summary This isn't the cheapest camera I have reviewed, and if you're looking for a more standard and simple point and shoot, the Go Pro might not be for you as there are better camera options. But if you are on the move and want to shoot at angles you never thought possible with a virtually indestructible video camera you owe it to yourself to give the Go Pro Hero 3 a try. I have been working with digital cameras and photography for over 20 years and have had photos and works published worldwide. For fun I review and write about the best digital cameras I can find and offer unbiased digital camera reviews. You owe it to yourself to get the best camera price you can when you consider any new digital camera purchase.

Conditions To Get An iPhone Insurance

0 comments | Read more...
Having an iPhone insurance to cover your expensive and valuable possession is something that everyone should opt for right at the moment they buy an iPhone. Insurance for iPhone is extremely important to protect it from any accidental damage or theft. Due to the massive popularity of the iPhone and rapid growth in the number of people purchasing it, many companies have started providing insurance for this incredible gadget from Apple. Earlier, there was no such policy for the protection of iPhone's, it was only protected until the warranty provided by the makers lasts. To fill this gap many companies have come forward to offer iPhone users with protection to cover iPhone from any damage.

iPhone insurance from most of the companies cover iPhone's from potential hazards such as:

- In the event of a theft, the companies offering the insurance cover will replace it.
- In case there has been an iPhone damage resulted from an accident or liquid, companies will pay for repair costs.
- The insurance companies will pay for any mechanical or electrical fault in an iPhone even after the expiry of the maker's guarantee or warranty period.

These are some of the benefits that insurance companies provide to iPhone owners, so that they can remain tension free and move anywhere without worrying about their iPhone.

It is important that you get an iPhone insurance because an iPhone has useful applications, messages, important numbers and photos, so it is advisable that you get your iPhone insured because you might need it just in case. Moreover, replacing or purchasing a new iPhone might not be a good idea because it will cost you more than the yearly insurance premium. However, it is important for you as a owner of iPhone to know about the conditions for which you need to consider applying for an insurance.

* It will cover your iPhone from accidental damage or it is stolen. The iPhone insurance is a low cost investment that will help you to get a replacement phone within 48 hours of the claim no matter where you are. Applying for this insurance policy is extremely easy because you can apply for it online.
* It will cover your iPhone from theft. But, you have to be really careful about your stuff and do not keep anything unattended especially when you are traveling. If your iPhone gets stolen, then contact the police without wasting time and a new replacement iPhone will be provided to you.
* Insurance will also cover iPhone from breakdown such as mechanical or electrical even after the expiry of the company warranty. This is extremely beneficial for those who simply cannot live without their iPhone even for a minute. So, if your iPhone stops recharging or working then this insurance coverage will provide you with repair cost or immediate replacement outside Apple's warranty coverage and this makes the iPhone insurance so much popular among iPhone owners.
* Insurance cover for iPhone also facilitates contacts backup, which is extremely important. This is simply because of the fact that if you have stored all the important contact numbers then losing your iPhone won't bother you much. This number or contact backup plan is a free service provided to the owners who have opted for the insurance.
* Another important benefit that these insurance policies provide is worldwide coverage. This is a standard practice that all the iPhone insurance companies provide, so whether you are in Barbados or in Hawaii, you will be protected by the insurance coverage against costs of repair or replacing your iPhone.
* If you find that somebody has stolen your iPhone and making unauthorized calls for it, then the insurance companies will pay for those calls. So, you do not have to worry about the call charges after it has been stolen.

You will be delighted to know that the premiums that you will have to pay monthly against an insurance for iPhone is extremely low and total premiums that you pay for the insurance cover in a year is substantially lower than the cost of a new iPhone. So, you can imagine that why it is important and under what condition an iPhone Insurance can save you from additional expenses and worries.

White iPhone 4 Vs Black iPhone 4: Is It a Gender Thing?

0 comments | Read more...
When any technology gadget has two colors one of the first questions that is always asked: "Is one color for men and the other for women?" The simple answer when it comes to the white iPhone 4 vs. the Black iPhone 4 is NO. In fact, many discussion boards and websites have looked in to this very thing. Although there is no hard evidence coming from Apple it seems that iPhone color is chosen more based on individual taste than gender specific guidelines.

There was a questionnaire on Macforum.com that asked iPhone users to state what color iPhone they have and what their gender was. The questionnaire had some surprising results.
  • Male with Black iPhone: 106 people or 53.54%
  • Male with White iPhone: 72 people or 36.36%
  • Female with Black iPhone: 10 people or 5.05%
  • Female with White iPhone: 10 people or 5.05%
Although this survey is not scientific by any means, it does give us some insight. Men were more likely to have a black iPhone than a white iPhone but women were just as likely to have either (although this is from a significantly smaller sample size). Surveys on other websites returned much the same results but in most cases even women chose the black iPhone over the white iPhone. When asked which color iPhone 4 do you want the results were still consistent.

The bottom line is that both men and women actually prefer the black iPhone the white. With the iPhone 3G and 3Gs both white and black models were offered and the black constantly out sold the white. The same is true for Google searches when a new iPhone is going to be released. Early on, when both the black and white iPhone 4s were going to be released, average monthly Google searches for black iPhone 4 far outpaced that for white iPhone 4. Black iPhone 4 had 2,900 searches while the white iPhone 4 had 10% of that at 260. Across the board, both male and female, black iPhones are more popular than their white brethren. The fact that seems to get lost most is that these are white and black iPhones not pink and black iPhones. If that were the case there would probably be a much more pronounced gender preference.
When multiple people were asked which color iPhone they wanted the answers were never uniform based on gender:

"I'm going to get the white iPhone 4 because it has a clean look to it and I hear finger smudges won't show up as much." -Trent Pirillo

"I like the black iPhone 4 for its slick design. The chrome looks much better on black than it does on white." -Julie Hodge

"I have the black one because it is already out and I don't have to wait for it. I don't care about the color because I put a cover on my iPhone anyways." -Paul Bowman

It is hard to tell whether the iPhone color is a gender thing. From interviews and online surveys it does not seem that gender has anything to do with the color iPhone that a person picks. What is very apparent is that the majority of people like the black iPhone over the white iPhone. When "The White" does finally come out it would be interesting for Apple to release gender specific statistics. Give a choice which would you choose?

One of the main reasons for this technological renaissance is the invention of iPhone applications, or more simply apps. The landscape of iPhone apps is constantly growing with thousands of new apps created daily. People are not only interested in acquiring apps for their phones, they are also more and more interested in developing their own apps as it can be a great way to explore your creativity while also earning some good money on the side.

In this article, I have listed some  iPhone books where anyone who is interested in exploring iPhone software development can find the information they need to put their creativity into practice, and begin to share their application inventions with the universe. In my opinion, purchasing a book to gain knowledge on iPhone software development is an essential investment when it comes to getting into the business of creating iPhone apps.
The first of the iPhone books that I believe to be useful is 'iPhone and iPad Apps for Absolute Beginners' by Rory Lewis. Obviously, this book is what its title implies; it is a good guide for people who have never developed software for the iPhone, and it can give you a step by step approach on how to learn this ability.

This particular book thoroughly explains in plain English the basics to iPhone software development and how to create apps for the iPhone. 'iPhone and iPad Apps for Absolute Beginners' is great for the amateur app developer, but if you have more experience in this field, there are other iPhone books that can be beneficial.
One of these iPhone books is 'iPhone Advanced Projects' by Ben Smith, Dylan Bruzenak, Joachim Bondo, Owen Goss, Peter Honeder, Ray Kiddy, Steve Finkelstein, Tom Harrington, Jonathan Saggau, Noel Llopis, Joe Pezzillo, Florian Pflug, and David Mark. With this many authors, it is logical to assume this book has an extensive compilation of information for advanced iPhone software development. 'iPhone Advanced Projects' is for the iPhone software developer who wants to take their application building abilities to the next level. It includes ways to optimize the performance of your apps, how to debug errors in iPhone code, environment mapping and much more.

These are only a couple of the hundreds of iPhone books that are available to people who are interested in iPhone software development. As I mentioned before, there is a broad scope of iPhone books that people can purchase, ranging from beginner iPhone app development, to advanced, to game development and much more.

All three of the iPhone books mentioned in this article, as well as hundreds of others, can be found at hotphoneaccessories.com. This is a great site not only for a great selection of iPhone books, but also great iPhone accessories including iPhone cases, batteries, docking stations, chargers and much more. I recommend this site to anyone looking for a good deal on iPhone accessories.

iPhone Marketing Strategy

0 comments | Read more...
As with all Apple marketing, the iPhone marketing strategy is very clear, simple and clever. With the plain and simple apple icon, Apple focuses on the pure innovative style of their products without all the "fluff". The iPhone was released by Apple in June, 2007. The ground-breaking style of the iPhone was touted for months before the initial release and has remained the best of the best when it comes to cell phones over the past several years. Before the iPhone's official release, Apple ran four television commercials promoting the new cell phone.

The first of the commercials portrays the new iPhone as the next step up from the popular iPod. The iPod was all the rage up until this point, and the iPhone was supposed to be the next-generation iPod, oh, and it's also a phone! The advertisement displays all of the enhanced features available in the iPod, and more, the point being "There's never been an iPod that can do this."
"So, say you're watching Pirates of the Caribbean"
Finger clicks on video and displays wide screen movie.
"Mmm, did somebody say Calamari?"
Finger clicks back to menu, selects Maps application to search 'Seafood'.
"The closest would be..."
Map displays all seafood locations and highlights location nearest to you.
"Ah!"

Finger clicks seafood location, and restaurant phone number displayed. iPhone dial's.
The first four iPhone commercials flaunted the convenience, innovation, and usefulness of a single product with the functionality of not only a phone, or a music device, but a product that can, among other things, listen to music, watch videos, view photos, make conference calls, check e-mail, browse the web, and view maps.

Not only does Apple utilize television for their marketing strategy, but they make use of their website by posting videos, they also published a handful of press releases that could have been released in one single document. Apple often uses this tactic to build up hype and leave the consumer wanting more.
With Apple's brief press releases, giving the audience little to go off, "Apple leveraged a law of social physics - news, like nature, abhors a vacuum. In the absence of real information, those who care about a product will grasp at any rumor that comes their way. Apple may publicly disavow the rumor Web sites that scramble for scraps about the companies plans, but secretly their marketing department must be delighted. It would cost a lot to buy that kind of Web advertising." (Silverman, 2007)

The official iPhone website does more than just provide information about the product. The website provides top tips and tricks for the use of an iPhone, as well as a huge focus on apps. Almost the entire iPhone page displays images of apps, provides the "App of the Week," the website also contains sections titled "Apps for Everything," and the "Top Apps." Apple's website is a great marketing tool for current iPhone users and consumers that have an interest in purchasing the iPhone. The promotion of the apps will create a stronger source of revenue for Apple. As customers see top rated applications, they are more likely to download the app, rather than searching through 25,000+ apps to find one that may be of any value to the consumer.
Successful younger men were the target audience that Apple had originally focused on. Apple had hoped that with this target audience, and the fact that 48% of this audience did not already own an Apple iPod, would allow them to reach their forecast of 10 million sales by the end of 2008.
One month prior to the release of the iPhone, Solutions Research Group profiled a cross-section of those aware of the phone. The forecast of potential buyers for the day of the release ranked a majority of T-Mobile customers, AT&T's only GSM-based product competitor, at 15%. The second largest group expected to purchase the new iPhone was AT&T's existing customer base, at 12%. The Solutions Research Group also found that 72% of males, versus 28% of women were most likely to investigate the phone at its minimum price of $499. (Malley, 2007)

The obvious current target audiences for the Apple iPhone include young people between the ages of 20 and 35, affluent teenagers, "jet-setters", and "mobile" employees who work outside of the office.
Apple is known for their simplistic, but catchy commercials. In recent television commercials for the Apple iPhone, "There's an App for that" is the new catch phrase that places a strong focus on the apps available from the App Store. Apps, or applications, are in "every category, from games to business, education to entertainment, finance to health and fitness, productivity to social networking. These applications have been designed to take advantage of iPhone features such as Multi-Touch, the accelerometer, wireless, and GPS" (Apple, 2009). Apple currently claims to have 25,000+ apps available, and counting.

The focus on the variation of apps offered opens up the target audience greatly. There is essentially an app for everyone. As a few of the iPhone commercials advertise, you can find the snow conditions on the mountain, track calories in your lunch, find exactly where you parked your car. You can find a cab in a strange city, find your share of the bill for a table of 5, or learn to fix a wobbly bookshelf. You can read a restaurant review, read an MRI, or just read a regular old book. These are just a few of the features that Apple has promoted through television commercials. iPhone apps provide every functionality that one can imagine.

When the iPhone was initially released, it was priced at a hefty $599. Still, hundreds of thousands of people rushed out to get the new phone, forking over a third as much as they would have had they waited an extra 3 months. 3 months after the initial release, Apple reduced the price of the iPhone to $399. This enraged Apple's loyal customers and consumers who purchased the new phone just months earlier. One year later, Apple again reduced the price of the iPhone to $199, 66% less than the original price.

In July, 2007, the Apple iPhone was all the hype. I believe that Apple's decision to release the phone at $599 was slightly based on greed. However, their product was the most innovative out in the market place, giving Apple the freedom to price the iPhone at whatever they wanted. Many believed that Apple had cut the price after discovering lower than expected iPhone sales. Apple, however, states that the price cut was made "to spur holiday sales and predicted that Apple would meet its stated goal of selling its 1 millionth iPhone by the end of September." (Dalrymple, 2007)

As with the product life cycle of any cell phone or Apple product, including Apple's iPod, prices are often reduced drastically months after the initially release. Tech products are always competing against "the latest and greatest" while maintaining a relevant price in the market place. Had Apple not reduced the price of the iPhone, the customer base would have dwindled quickly as many consumers are unwilling to spend $599 on a cell phone, no matter how many useful features the phone may carry.

As the iPhone remains to be the number one smart phone around, the product continues to grow, increasing size capabilities, increasing the number of applications available, and providing new features that are released through new iterations of the phone, continue to provide a greater value to the iPhone while the pricing remains relevant.

At this time in the product life cycle, Apple continues to release enhanced iterations of the iPhone. With most iPhone users un-willing to purchase a newer version of the iPhone because of price, the target audience for the newer generation phones is new iPhone customers. With Apple's installed base continuing to grow, they have found a way bring in reoccurring revenue from their existing customers through the sales of their application downloads. As more and more people purchase the iPhone, Apple's audience for new customers continues to dwindle. Fortunately for Apple, they have built in another source for revenue that continues throughout the life of the product.

Iphone For Sale

I spent over $700.00 on my new iphone 4 and a good case for it was the first accessory to buy. Off course it make the iphone look huge, but as the case is well designed and look more nice when you have it in person, most people will think you have a different phone than iphone. It has a perfect fit on all sides, and the screen protector is great too. Your iphone will be ready for the war!

I don't care if the iphone look bigger in this case, but I do care about my investment. This is my 4th iphone, all previous I did not use case and all them got cracked or lots of scratches all over, dents, etc. So if you want to sale your iphone when a new model is out, is better if you phone is in a good shape!

This case will do the job and protect your phone against almost everything!

The only thing I did not like is the cover for the headphone connector, when using the headphones it look weird, but I know anything is perfect.

I really recommend this if you love and want to take care of your magical iphone!

Iphone 4 Case

Does it add bulk to the slim and trim iPhone 4? Yes, of course it does. How would this tough "Defender Series" case protect the phone if it was just a thin skin? Is the case comparable to the Otterbox Defender Series released for the iPhone 3g and iPhone 3gs? Well, yes and no. The design of this new Otterbox iPhone 4 Defender Series case fits the iPhone 4 like a glove just as the 3g/3gs Otterbox Defender cases fit tightly around those models. The similarities stop with the look and feel of the Otterbox iPhone 4 Defender series case. Clearly the look is different because of the dimensions of the phone itself. But the feel of the case doesn't appear to have the solid "indestructable" feel that the 3g/3gs Otterbox Defender series cases have. I credit this once again to the size of the iPhone 4 as it appears that even more bulk would have been added to the phone had Otterbox applied the exact same shell and skin customized for the iPhone 4. Besides, the iPhone 4 alone is more durable than the 3g/3gs so that tank of a case is not needed. I have had this case protecting my iPhone 4 for quite some time now and have had no issues with it. Even the power adaptor side flap that I've read a few complaints about seals flush with the rest of the case, although it does take a tiny bit of effort to seal.

Do I wish that this phone felt like the 3g/3gs Otterbox "tanks" as I refer to them. Yes! But I love this case and would highly reccomend it anyone. If you don't like the bulk, consider the Commuter Series, but don't expect the same level of protection.

Last comment, yes a little dust will collect on the camera lens/camera flash portion of the case as some reviewers have stated. I have yet to scrub it out and the pictures are still just as brilliant so I refuse to deduct a star for a little dust.

at&t Iphone

I bought this bumper for my husband's black AT&T iPhone 4, and I also bought the white and green version for my AT&T iPhone 4S (see my review here[...] I tried both of them on our AT&T iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, and also my friends' Verizon iPhone 4 and 4S. Here is the result:

1. It's high quality, and the volume buttons and the shut off button are metal as described. The window for the silent button is a perfect fit for AT&T iPhone 4, but a little bit off on AT&T iPhone 4s and Verizon iPhones. The silent button is still reachable from the window, but slightly off from the middle. So I guess for Verizon iPhones, 4 and 4s are identical; but for AT&T iPhone 4 and 4s, there is a teeny tiny difference in the vertical position of the silent button. I guess when they introduced Verizon iPhone 4 and all the later iPhone 4S, the silencer has changed a bit.

So my conlusion is: the bumper is a great fit for AT&T iPhone4, and a good fit for AT&T iPhone 4s and Verizon iPhone 4/4S, if you ignore the slightly off silent button. That's why I gave it 4 stars.

Free Iphone 4

I have just completed one month of owning of Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I have no doubt declaring I am very happy with this. This is the best smart phone on the market for the time being until iPhone 5 or Samsung Galaxy S3 releases. I had iPhone 4 for 2 months and I like many other people who could not be satisfied with beauty and fruit brand alone threw that 'dumb beauty' . For me that was more of a 'show off' rather than of practical use.

Apple itself in a recent patent suit directed against google termed this as the "most creditable competitor to iPhone'. Apple co founder which is not a apple employee anymore and hence free to speak truth freely declared iPhone easy to use but 'Android more feature rich'. He dismissed Siri totally saying he could not understand how come internet could be needed to make a call through Siri. Do I need to say more now? If yes then here is the detail review:

Like ->
(1) Bigger HD contour display-> Though you can distinguish between pixels while looking closely unlike iPhone's Retina display, Nexus's display is gorgeous. Colors are very vibrant and rich. Black is real black (because of Super AMOLED display technology) which creates the whole difference.
The Screen is large and with medium hands I can reach to the whole screen stretching the thumb or fingers. Sometimes I tend to use the other hand (luckily I have two hands and both are fully functional so can't complaint).

Because of bigger screen this phone is more useful or convenient for what Apple invented iPhone for ie Browsing web, playing games, watching videos. And because of this I tend to depend lesser on PC/laptop/tablet. With bigger screen, power and customization of Android OS this phone is closer to our old friend PC/laptop.

**I run the same HD video both on nexus and iPhone 4S and nexus one was better to watch.**

(2) Soul-> The soul of this device is ICS OS which is now equal to iOS in terms of user friendlessness but is better because it is much more customizable and hence you feel completely in control and power. This is different feeling than using dumb iOS. After using ICS I really struggled to use the iOS or same iOS based apps. ICS is lightning fast and smooth.
Face unlock, NFC, android beam and google wallet (not available on Verizon version) are very cool. Face unlock works perfectly.
Built-in Data usage monitor is very helpful for not letting you go above your data limit.
-> Mine is international unlocked version which within a week got automatically updated to 4.0.2 from 4.0.1.
This has Best notification, better customization for web browsing.

Ohhhhhhhh... did I tell you android has taken two steps which is miles ahead of time and going to change the things completely? (i) No Physical button-> The buttons are in fact part of OS itself and function well. Hence the buttons can now be context specific and smarter. They change their position depending on how you are holding the phone or what you are doing. While watching video they disappear completely giving you the whole screen for watching, and yes they will reappear on appropriate place when you need them. (ii) Same OS for all devices: Unlike Apple now same application can run on any device running on ICS. For apple the applications need to be written separately both for iPhone and iPad. That's why Apple has lesser applications on iPads. With new approach of ICS now people will just write once and run it anywhere hence number of apps is going to get multiplied faster on ICS.

(3) Eco System (Apps)-> Android eco system (or app market) is there on par with Apple eco system. In the same period I have installed much more applications ($150-$200 of worth in Apple world AND YES ALL FREE!!!!!!!) than I did on iPhone 4 (because most applications are free compared to Apple). I am more functional on Android than I was on iPhone 4. There is nothing which I want and its not there. And yes now google going to start monitoring of applications so less argument against Android apps.
(4) Form factor-> I like its form factor more than of iPhone's. Countered makes it more convenient to use and keep in the pocket. Now to me iPhone is just any another device and I look on iPhone with pity.
(5) Battery-> I need to charge it once a day with low to moderate usage which is what other iPhone 4S customers are also doing. And if you are going to use it like laptop you will need to charge it more (is not this same with your laptop?). Better part is unlike iPhone you can carry batteries and change it easily. No complaint here.
(6) Reception-> Decent.
(7) Call quality-> Nice.
(8) Volume/Speaker-> Low, could be helped with volume control plus application.
(9) More social-> Very well integrated with google.
(10). Build-> Except the battery cover everything else is of high quality. I don't care about plastic versus metal debate. iPhone even with metal and corning glass are equivalently fragile and people have been reporting iPhone being broken having dropped just from 12 feet or so. And with gorilla glass on both ends iPhone 4 is more fragile. Remember gorilla glass is just scratch resistant not damage resistant.
(11) Typing-> is a breeze and it seems to read you mind and hence make typing a different experience than on iPhone. And big screen helps every here again.

Unfortunately this phone decided to do have some deliberate suicidal traits perhaps to avoid wiping away other Samsung devices. So here are the things which could have been improved upon:
(1) Speaker-> Could have been better (Minor+ issue)
(2) Reception-> Though not much complaint, Could have been just a 'little' better (Very Minor issue).
(3) Camera-> Could have been better definitely.
(4) External Storage-> Either they should have allowed adding external storage or given the device with more alternated with respect to storage capacities. (Minor issue)
(5) Display-> Should not be able to distinguish pixels (Minor issue but this should be ultimate goal for the display)

Conclusion-> This is the best smart phone on the market for the time being if you can live with some minor issue with volume. And all issues reported so far with this device seem to be software issues and should get corrected with updates or third part applications.

White Iphone 4

I bought this case for my new white iphone 4. Let me start by saying I also have the Otterbox Defender for travel and times where I may need the added protection. However, I think the best aesthetic features of the Iphone 4 are lost to bulky silicone cases. And if you are going to buy the white iphone 4, why cover it all up? Just my opinion. So back to the casemate case.

This case is just as the name implies... barely there. It manages to keep the sleek, slim design of the iphone 4 and show off the white color of my phone. Both the top strip (power button area/ headset plug in area) and bottom strip (charging area and speakers) are left completely unprotected. The case is essentially the same thickness as the phone and does not come up much higher than the screen offering little protection there as well. I have not dropped my phone yet but imagine that it would not hold up well with this case.

The backing is also rather smooth and may slip out of your hands, though this has not happened to me. However, after tirelessly searching reviews for the perfect case that would not only showcase the beauty of the iphone 4 but also offer protection from high impact falls... I gave up. I ended up with 2 cases and I love this casemate because it does not add any bulk and allows me to show off my white iphone 4. Until the perfect case appears my 2 cases will do.

Verizon Iphone 4

I have the new Verizon iPhone 4. The reason that the original iPhone 4, AT&T version, of the Otterbox Defender case does not fit the Verizon iPhone 4 is the placement of the mute button. The Verizon iPhone's mute button is slightly lower down on the side of the phone than the AT&T iPhone 4. The original, AT&T, iPhone 4 Otterbox Defender case actually puts pressure on the mute button making it difficult to slide.

I bought this case because the description says Hybrid. DO NOT think that because the description of a case says Hybrid that is made for both AT&T and Verizon iPhones. Make sure to read the description carefully. If it doesn't say that the case if made for both carrier's flavor of iPhone 4 then be wary. Also, the RED Otterbox case doesn't actually look as RED as the one in the picture. It's more of an "orangeish" pink color. I thought it was just my eyes or maybe the lighting at first, but then the guys at the office asked why I bought a pink phone case. Imagine my dismay. So anyway, I've decided to go with a plain black Otterbox case and this time I'm going to make sure that it is made for the Verizon iPhone 4.

Otterbox's web site has the model number listed for the Otterbox Defender case that is compatible with the Verizon iPhone. You can also find it here on Amazon's site by model number.

PROS: Execellent case. Clean, tight fit. Protects the phone like a tank.

CONS: The RED color is not that great. I've seen the BLUE case and it's nice if you like blue.

Good Luck!

iPhone 5 went on sale today but the news was marred by the terrible reviews of Apple Maps popping up from around the planet.

Too many times in the past Apple have rejected features and functionality stating they are not ready for primetime. Remember Adobe Flash? Clearly Maps in its current form would fall squarely in the not-ready category and Apple should have waited to get it right before unilaterally replacing the well established Google Maps in iOS 6.

This tumblr blog is already filled up with user submitted images of missing, distorted and inaccurate data, and there are reports that Google have already submitted a Maps app waiting for approval with Apple.

This report from guardian.co.uk

Google, I hear from roundabout sources, is enjoying the bad press Apple is suffering. It would be surprising if its mappers could resist some schadenfreude, since they are very proud of their work; having it rejected wholesale must be galling.

Predictably Apple take no responsibility for the mess. While they haven’t yet accused users of holding the phone wrong, Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller told AllThingsD

“Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service. We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover and Siri integration, and free turn by turn navigation. We launched this new map service knowing that it is a major initiative and we are just getting started with it. We are continuously improving it, and as Maps is a cloud-based solution, the more people use it, the better it will get. We’re also working with developers to integrate some of the amazing transit apps in the App Store into iOS Maps. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.”

People can report  inaccuracies by tapping on the page curl on the bottom right corner of Maps which brings up a screen to capture feedback. Yes it is a matter of time before the problem is fixed. But in the short term Apple seem to be okay to let users suffer the downgrade.
